6-pin PCIe cable on 8-pin GPU without adapter? [SOLVED] Can I use 6-pin PCIe cable on 8-pin GPU without adapter?

e. not a massive 1200w gaming jobby with 45A on each line but a "normal" PSU, why would AIB manufacturers need to move to an 8 pin connector with two more neutrals? I was hoping to upgrade my AMD Radeon 5850 (2x 6 pin) to a Rx480 8GB AIB board (probably Sapphire Nitro+) but this requires an 8 pin plug. The only exception to that, imo, is dual 6-pin to 8-pin, which is imo usually safe as long as the adapter isn't total shit. Here are a few examples of GPUs that don’t require external power: GT 1030, GTX 1050 2GB variant, RX 550, RX 460, and many others. You can find PCIe slots in every computer or motherboard that enable users to connect GPUs, SSDs, and raid cards. Motherboards come with the aforementioned PCI Express x16 slot that can provide a maximum of 75 watts of power. Many adapter I see online are also quite simply designed and I am not an electrical engineering person. The PSU should supply you with the power that you need to run your system, (at least what you've told us of it) (hint, hint, fill out your system specs) but Seasonic may have limited your ability to do so with the connectors provided.

Connecting the GPU to the power supply unit is not very tedious, and you can do it yourself if you know of setting up a system. You can find power connectors that are not compatible with the motherboard or other hardware in the computer.

The usual 12-pin cables with 18 AWG-rated wires can extract up to 500 watts of power, directly bypassing the motherboard. PCIe in the CPUs is an interface standard connecting many superfast components for high-speed data transmission using the power source from the motherboard.

Two six-pin connectors will offer 150 watts of power, and the PCIe x16 slot will offer another 75 watts. There is a chance that SATA won’t be able to handle the power that your graphics card requires, and this is not something that you want to encounter, especially if the cable is labeled as “ SATA only“.

Hypnotoad's RAM is dying, his motherboard is acting like the 6-year-old AsRock it is, a couple of SATA ports have just stopped working, but the RGB remains. so i am wondering whether or not i can use an adapter that connects 2 6 pin connectors to an 8 pin connector for power a gpu like a rx 570 which takes 150 watts.
